News Gathering vs. Confirmation Bias
- Remember, if you do not have at least one source of news that you turn to regularly, with which you routinely disagree, then you are not practicing news gathering! You are practicing [confirmation bias].

[S]cience is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time – when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.
The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.
— Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark (New York: Ballantine Books, 1996) at p.32.

Republicans Want to Force AT&T to Carry Trumpy Propaganda Network
Nikki McCann Ramirez writing at Rolling Stone: The party of free-market capitalism has responded to DirecTV booting Newsmax by arguing that the network should carry the Trump-loving propaganda network, financial considerations be damned. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) told Newsmax, which is still available for free on their website, that the “censorship” of conservative voices has […]
Will Smith shows true colors, hypocrisy at Academy Awards
I suppose congratulation are in order for Will Smith — not for the Oscar® he so clearly deserves for his amazing portrayal of Richard Williams in the 2021 film King Richard, but for his recent admission to the Joke Police, a subsidiary of the Thought Police. You’ve all seen the clip. Rock makes the G.I. […]
The GOP pushed Benghazi probes for years. It’s already done with Jan. 6.
Aaron Blake at The Washington Post: Republicans spent years pushing for investigation after investigation of the tragedy in Benghazi, Libya. But when it comes to the Jan. 6 insurrection, they’re already very much over it. A new poll from Quinnipiac University is the latest to show Republicans don’t really want any type of investigation of […]
More Bullshit Hypocrisy from the So-called Conservative Crowd
We all know that when a business owner refuses to bake a cake for a gay couple, citing his or her “beliefs”, that the so-called conservative crowd rallies to the business owner’s defense. “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.” However, now that business owner’s are refusing service to anyone not wearing a […]
